Information regarding the transition process and the search for a new lead pastor will be posted here as it becomes available.
#3 Ministry Site Profile: The first draft of the Ministry Site Profile for St. Luke’s Lutheran Church has been prepared. Members of the congregation are invited to comment on the contents before a final version is submitted to the Metro Chicago Synod of the ELCA. St. Luke’s Ministry Site Profile (Draft 11-6-2011)
#2 Update on the Call Process: The Call Committee has met and has selected John Timmer as the Chair of the committee. The Call Committee, Council members, Staff and other congregation members will be filling out the Ministry Site Profile in the month of September. This Profile tells potential candidates about St. Luke’s. As part of the profile, your input to the Transforming Church Index Survey is extremely important! The Deadline for completing the survey is September 19.
#1 The Church Council has affirmed the selection of the Call Committee:
Fifty-seven people were nominated for the Call Committee and their names were prioritized by the Congregation Council. The following seven people (plus a Council representative who has voice but not vote) have agreed to be on the Call Committee for our next Lead Pastor:
Kara Clark, Claranne English, Marianne Griebler, Jim Pearson, Barbara Swartling, John Timmer, Jessica Weber, and Council Representative, Dennis Diana.
Our next step, now that the Call Committee is formed, is to begin work on the Parish Profile. The Council and Call Committee, as well as some other members with specific expertise, will complete the profile and then send it out to the congregation for comment. Once the Profile is sent to the Synod Office it is matched with profiles of potential candidates. The Call Committee will evaluate and meet these potential candidates.
A Special Word about what Call Committee membership entails: The Call Committee will be working hard over the next year or so to find a candidate for St. Luke’s, often with weekly (or more frequent) meetings and must be able to travel to hear candidates preach. The Call Committee nominees will need to limit other outside involvement, at St. Luke’s or elsewhere, so that the Call process can proceed. If you or your nominee can not commit the time needed, it is better to find another candidate who can. The more that a Call Committee can devote themselves to the task unselfishly, the quicker they will find our next pastor!
Welcome to the Rev. Dr. George J. Koch, Jr., who began his service to St. Luke’s as interim lead pastor on May 1, 2011.Biographical information
