Music for Children & Youth

Children discover a life of faith through music.

Children’s Choir  Kindergarten-6th graders are invited to sing in the Children’s Choir. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Choir Room. Participation in choir is an important part of a child’s faith growth and a wonderful way for children to learn that they are important members of St. Luke’s as leaders during worship. The choir leads worship about once a month, learning liturgies, anthems, hymns and songs. Each rehearsal incorporates vocal and rhythmic development, music reading, learning about the seasons of the church year, as well as moving and playing percussion instruments. The children work hard and have lots of fun as they grow in their faith and praise God together. For more information contact Melinda Ramseth Hoiland, email.

Orff Ensemble  All 3rd-6th graders who enjoy playing Orff and other percussion instruments are invited to play in the Orff Ensemble. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Rehearsal Room. Children not only learn music to play during worship, but they also have opportunities to explore and improvise on the Orff instruments, learn more about the basic elements of music and create their music. Carl Orff was a German composer and music educator who developed the Orff approach to teaching music using lots of rhythm, exploration and improvisation, and he helped design the special instruments. Come check it out! The Orff Ensemble plays for worship about once a month. For more information contact Melinda Ramseth Hoiland, email.
