Meet the Staff of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church:

JohnsonThe Rev. Richard W. Johnson – Lead Pastor began his ministry at St. Luke’s at the beginning of 2015. He is married to Annette, who is an accountant, who most recently worked at a Social Service agency in Milwaukee. They have three children, Matthew who lives and works in Chicago, Jeremy, who lives in Greendale, WI and works in Milwaukee and Jenna who lives in Cedarburg, WI and works in Milwaukee.  Pastor and Annette live in Des Plaines. Pastor Johnson has served 35 years as a pastor of the ELCA. He loves parish ministry. He understands the congregation as a servant community where through Word and Sacrament we are regularly touched by God’s grace and inspired by the Holy Spirit to be the compassionate “Hands of God” reaching out to those in our community with love, care, acceptance, and forgiveness. Dick and Annette Johnson are both originally from Glen Ellyn, IL. Pastor Johnson graduated from Carthage College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He has served as pastor of St. Mark, Cape Girardeau, MO, Zion in Kewanee, IL, lead pastor, St. Timothy in Naperville, IL and most recently served as lead pastor at Mount Carmel, Milwaukee, WI. Pastor Johnson enjoys walking, playing golf, professional and college sports, and spending time with his family. The Rev. Alex LaChapelle – Associate Pastor began his ministry in June, 2014. He is a graduate of Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. Before graduate school he held ministry positions in Louisiana, California, and Oregon working in camps and churches primarily with youth and families.  In graduate school he did youth ministry in Oak Forest and Homewood, IL and had the privilege of being the pastoral intern in Austin, TX.  Alex graduated from Concordia University Chicago with a BA in Theology and an emphasis in youth and family ministry.  Originally from Wisconsin, that does make him a certified fan of the Green Bay Packers.  In his free time he enjoys playing music and attending live concerts, and if outdoors it’s even better.  Alex is excited about youth and family ministry and holds special interest in preaching and worship. AKOrgan2Anne Krentz Organ serves as the Director of Music Ministries at St. Luke’s. Her responsibilities include worship planning, service playing, and the direction of the choral and instrumental music program which includes adult, youth, and children’s choirs, handbell choirs, and a variety of instrumental ensembles. Anne holds degrees from Valparaiso University, the University of Illinois, and Concordia University Chicago. Her compositions are published by Abingdon Press, Augsburg Fortress, Choristers Guild, Concordia Publishing House, Hope Publishing Company, and MorningStar Music. Melinda Ramseth Hoiland is Director of Children’s Music and Education Ministry at St. Luke’s.  She directs the Cherub Choir (K-2nd), Junior Choir (3rd-6th), Orff Ensemble (3rd-6th), Flute Choir and Recorder Consort for youth and adults, and Camp Allegro, a week-long music day camp held at the church each summer.  She also coordinates children’s education (pre-Kindergarten through 5th Grade), recruits and trains volunteers and teachers, and organizes education and fellowship opportunities for children and families in order to encourage and nurture children to grow in their faith and serve God in a variety of ways. Melinda holds a B.A. in Music Education from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and a M.A. in Music Education with an emphasis in Orff-Schulwerk from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. She also teaches private flute lessons and performs in the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra.  Melinda and her husband, Joel, have three grown children – Kiersten, Daniel and Britta.
