Learning

“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Discover a Life of Faith. . . . as we
Explore Our Faith — from three-year olds to adults, all are invited to join in a life long adventure as they increase their understanding of Scripture and how it relates to our daily lives.

Whatever your age or experience, at St. Luke’s you will find a variety of opportunities to learn more about the Scriptures, the life of faith, and our Christian concern for the needs of our community and the world. Faith formation lasts a lifetime!

Children (3 years-5th Grade).  Sunday School children gather on Sundays at 8:30 a.m. in Henderson Hall. Each Sunday we will have a breakfast snack available as the children arrive. We begin with an opening time of music and hearing the story of the day followed by break offs by age group. The children will read and learn about the Gospel message that we will all hear in the worship service on that Sunday. Each child will receive their own Bible so they can follow along not only in Sunday School but also in worship if they would like.  Each month the learn a song that will be sung in worship that month. Sunday School Registration Form. When your child is ready, ask about classes for First Communion.

Middle School (Grades 6-8). Confirmation has long been a tradition of the Lutheran church. It is a time where congregations support a parent’s promises made in baptism to learn the scripture, the creeds, 10 commandments, and the Lord’s Prayer and to assist young people in composing a life of faith. Confirmation is not just a place of information learning of history, scripture and traditions but also a time to ask questions, raise doubts, serve your neighbor and have experiences of Christian community and fellowship. Confirmation classes are held Sunday afternoons 4:30-6:00 p.m.. To register your child, save the attached Confirmation Registration Form to your desktop; fill it out and save; return it to Kim Hendee via email khendee@stlukespr.org

During Sunday School, students have the opportunity to explore how their faith plays a role in their views of culture, science, politics, education, history, sports, etc. These discussions are student led with topics they are interested in exploring and is led by Gerry Mears.

High School Youth. The youth have their own room where on Sunday mornings they share their thoughts and concerns with the Youth Forum leaders.

Adults. As life gets more complex, there is more we want to learn about how our faith relates to the challenges of our daily lives.  Please consider participating in one of these opportunities: The Adult Forum on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. takes up many different topics of current interest. The Men’s Breakfast on Tuesday morning is also topical.  Study of Scripture is the focus of the Wednesday morning Bible Study at 10:00 a.m. Thursday Noon Bible Study via Zoom, and the Saturday Morning Men’s Bible Study.   A place is waiting for you.  Travel is another way to learn.  Travel opportunities are available almost every year, consider traveling with St. Luke’s friends. Check the calendar for the day and time when each group meets.

Library. Regardless of your age, there is a treasure waiting for you in the St. Luke’s Library.  You may even wish to help the folks who care for this special place.
