Seeking and Finding Community
Jeff’s Story

Jeff Mohl has a familiar church resume: grew up in a Lutheran congregation, attended worship regularly, active in activities through high school, and then completely disconnected during college and young adulthood. He was all in until he was all out.
The pull of reconnecting with his faith rose when Jeff and partner Tricia married and began their family. Both wanted a faith community where they could raise their children. However, the want went much deeper. Attending worship and enrolling the kids in Sunday School wasn’t enough; they wanted a place where they could be all in – could become active members of an active congregation.
St. Luke’s fit that description. From the first visit, Jeff experienced a strong sense of belonging and welcome. The traditional service resonated with him, and the openness of members made him feel immediately a part of something bigger. What truly transformed his experience, however, was the church’s commitment to community and engagement. Jeff started organizing activities for young families. He participates in the Outreach Cabinet, where he plays a more significant role in shaping the welcoming atmosphere that initially drew him in.
Jeff hopes that every person that comes to St. Luke’s experiences the thriving community that drew him in. Intentionally creating an environment that serves everyone – wherever they are on their faith journey — makes St. Luke’s stronger and able grow its ministries to members, to the community and beyond.
