Dear church,We know the world around us is changing; participation in church and faith expression is too. But when I think about the generosity of this congregation, and all that faithful people have made possible over the past 110 years, I can’t help but get excited about what might be ahead.
One of the things I’ve been dreaming about is the possibility of legacy giving. As one generation passes its resources to the next in the coming decades, I wonder what it might mean for the future of our congregation if St. Luke’s were part of those plans.
Imagine, for example, endowing a pastoral position, much like colleges endow professorships, so that you can guarantee that this congregation has a pastor to care for its members for generations to come. I think about the ways we were able dramatically pay off our mortgage thanks to some generous bequests, as well as other gifts. Or imagine what we could make possible for music, faith formation, and service to our neighbors. I love dreaming about these possibilities!
Of course, these are deeply personal decisions, involving the people we love and the things that matter most to us. I hope you’ll consider joining us for our upcoming Legacy Giving Lunch & Learn, led by our representative from the ELCA Foundation, whether you’ve already made plans or are simply curious to learn more. Please be sure to register below!
So much of what we enjoy at St. Luke’s today is here because people before us believed in a future they would never see. What a beautiful thing to imagine that we might do the same for those who come after us.
See you in worship,
