FROM THE PASTOR
Give Thanks for the Saints
Dear church,
This week, our beautiful new lectern was delivered and installed. Crafted by the same designer as our new baptismal font, from the very same wood, it complements the architecture and liturgical furnishings of our sanctuary. We are delighted that these two pieces, designed and created together, will now serve generations of worshipers at St. Luke’s.
The lectern also includes several thoughtful features that are both practical and beautiful: a built-in shelf, electrical connections for lighting, wheels for easy movement, and even a specially designed matching step so that our youngest readers can proclaim God’s Word with confidence!
Our Lutheran tradition reminds us that the beauty of our worship spaces is never simply decoration. The spaces and furnishings of our sanctuary help proclaim the Gospel. The font reminds us that we belong to Christ. The lectern gives prominence to the Word through which God continues to speak. The table gathers us to be nourished by Christ’s very presence. Together, these places make visible the grace that gathers, sustains, and sends us.
And how fitting that we welcome this new addition on All Saints Sunday! Both the font and new lectern have been given in loving memory of Walter and Helen Borows.
On this day, when the distance between heaven and earth seems especially thin, we remember that we worship in the company of saints across every time and place. We gather around the same promises that sustained those who came before us, and that will sustain those who come after us. There is something profoundly beautiful about that continuity, about the way God’s grace reaches across generations.
I look forward to gathering with you on Sunday, giving thanks for the saints, and rejoicing in the beauty of God’s presence among us.
See you in worship,
Pastor Kyle
